The College of San Mateo (CSM) is a public two-year community college situated in the northern part of Silicon Valley in San Mateo, California, with proximity to San Francisco. Established in 1922, it serves as one of the oldest institutions within the San Mateo County Community College District. The campus is known for its panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and a blend of modern and historic architecture, which includes the iconic San Mateo Hall. CSM offers a diverse academic profile with associate degree programs, transfer education, and career technical education, with popular majors encompassing business, communication and media studies, health sciences, and technology. Application to CSM is open to all who meet the minimum requirements, categorizing the school's selectivity as open admissions. While the majority of students commute, there is on-campus housing available for those seeking a residential college experience. CSM does not have a highly notable athletic program, hence specific sports teams and achievements are not a predominant focus in its campus identity.
