Butte College, located in the rural setting of Oroville, California, is a public community college established in 1967. Approximately 75 miles north of Sacramento, the campus is situated within the Sierra Nevada foothills, and is characterized by its expansive wildlife refuge, which is used as an outdoor classroom for environmental and natural sciences. Butte College offers a range of associate degree programs, certificates, and transfer credits to four-year universities, with notable programs in nursing, wildfire science, and sustainability. While the college has an open admissions policy, certain programs may have additional selective criteria. Student housing is available, as Butte boasts one of California's few community college on-campus residency options. Although widely recognized for its commitment to environmental sustainability, Butte College does not have an emphasis on intercollegiate athletic programs.

Butte College has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  4,091 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 5,271 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $1,104 plus fees of $232.
