The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) is located in the southeastern region of Arkansas, situated in the small city of Monticello. Established in 1909 as the Fourth District Agricultural School, the institution evolved through several name changes before becoming part of the University of Arkansas System in 1971. The 1,400-acre campus features both academic buildings and an expansive working forest that serves as a laboratory for the school's nationally recognized forestry program. UAM operates as an open-admission public university, offering associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees with prominent programs in forestry, agriculture, nursing, and teacher education. The university maintains two additional satellite campuses in McGehee and Crossett that focus on technical education, while the main campus provides traditional student housing and competes in NCAA Division II athletics as the Boll Weevils and Cotton Blossoms.
