Carthage College occupies a scenic 80-acre campus along the shore of Lake Michigan in Kenosha, Wisconsin, approximately 55 miles north of Chicago and 35 miles south of Milwaukee. The private liberal arts college, founded in 1847 by Lutheran pioneers in Hillsboro, Illinois, relocated to its present location in 1962, where its modern campus features distinctive limestone buildings and waterfront views. As a selective private institution, Carthage maintains a liberal arts foundation while offering notable programs in nursing, business, and natural sciences, with particular recognition for its astronomy and physics departments that frequently collaborate with NASA. The college provides traditional undergraduate housing in several lakeside residence halls, where most students live on campus all four years, and competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Firebirds.
