Located in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, Bethany College occupies a historic 1,300-acre campus in the small town of Bethany, situated 40 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1840 by Alexander Campbell, Bethany stands as the oldest degree-granting institution in West Virginia and maintains its affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The campus features Gothic-style architecture, including Old Main, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bethany operates as a residential liberal arts college, with science, psychology, education, and communications among its primary academic programs. The college competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the Bethany Bison, fielding teams in 22 varsity sports.
