Virginia Military Institute (VMI), established in 1839 in Lexington, Virginia, is a public military college steeped in history and noted for its rigorous military-inspired education. The campus, characterized by its Gothic Revival architecture, offers a distinctive atmosphere where students, known as cadets, are immersed in a structured environment emphasizing leadership and character development. Located in the Shenandoah Valley, close to Roanoke and within driving distance of Washington, D.C., the Institute offers students both a picturesque setting and access to larger metropolitan areas. VMI offers a range of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, with engineering, sciences, and liberal arts among the popular academic offerings. The Institute maintains a selective admissions process. All cadets are required to live on campus throughout their education at VMI, fostering a close-knit community and a unique collegiate experience. Known for its military tradition, VMI contributes to the production of officers for the United States Armed Forces and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
