Norwich University, located in the rural Green Mountains of central Vermont approximately 10 miles south of the state capital of Montpelier, is the nation's oldest private military college and the birthplace of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). The 1,200-acre hillside campus combines historic granite buildings with modern academic and residential facilities, serving both military and civilian students through a traditional undergraduate program. While the university maintains its strong military heritage as one of six senior military colleges in the United States, approximately half of the undergraduate population consists of civilian students. Norwich is known for its engineering programs, criminal justice, and cybersecurity curriculum, with all students, whether civilian or in the Corps of Cadets, residing in campus housing. Military students participate in daily formations and training while adhering to a strict military lifestyle, while civilian students follow a traditional college residential program.
