The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA), located in Edinburg, Texas, is a now-defunct educational institution which was merged into The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in 2015. Prior to the merger, UTPA served as a center for higher education in the Rio Grande Valley region, close to McAllen and approximately 70 miles upstream from the Gulf of Mexico. UTPA's campus was known for a subtropical landscape that characterized the Lower Rio Grande Valley, with a variety of facilities available for on-campus student housing. Academic offerings at the former university included a spread of undergraduate and graduate programs, with particular recognition in areas such as business, education, and health sciences. The selectivity of UTPA's admissions process was considered moderately selective. It is important for prospective students and parents to note that UTPA has since become part of UTRGV, and updated information about the campus, programs, and admissions should be sought under The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's profile.

In the most recent statistical year 13,744 prospective students applied, and 12,053 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 5,770 enrolled in the school.  21,452 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 10,107 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $7,854 plus fees of $1,684. UT-Pan American is ranked 896 nationally in the CollegeSimply.com 2024 U.S. Colleges Ranking.
