The University of Texas at Brownsville, located in the southern tip of Texas near the border with Mexico, is a public institution noted for its melding of American and Hispanic cultural influences, reflected on its campus atmosphere and architecture. Historically, it was founded as a community college in 1973 and later joined the University of Texas System in 1991. UT Brownsville has since then offered a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate programs with notable emphasis on bilingual education, nursing, and business. While the university provides a relatively less competitive admissions process, it ensures a comprehensive educational experience with a focus on research and community engagement.
