Texas A&M University at Galveston, located on Pelican Island along the Gulf Coast of Texas, serves as the ocean-oriented campus of the Texas A&M University System. The 135-acre maritime campus, situated approximately 50 miles southeast of Houston, specializes in marine and maritime studies, including marine biology, marine engineering, maritime administration, and ocean engineering programs. As the home of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy, one of six state maritime academies in the United States, the campus maintains training vessels for hands-on maritime education and houses the Texas Institute of Oceanography. The waterfront campus features modern maritime training facilities, research laboratories, and student housing complexes, with most students living in on-campus residence halls during their first year. Athletic programs operate at the club and intramural level, with sailing and rowing teams competing against other maritime academies.
