Lane College, a private historically Black college affiliated with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, is located in Jackson, Tennessee, approximately 70 miles east of Memphis. The campus occupies 55 acres in a residential area and features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including the J.K. Daniels Conference Center and Water Tower, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Founded in 1882 to educate freed slaves and their children, Lane College maintains its tradition as a liberal arts institution while offering contemporary programs in business, computer science, and education. The college provides traditional dormitory living arrangements for its students through several residential halls on campus, and competes in NCAA Division II athletics as the Dragons in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
