Voorhees College, located in the small town of Denmark in rural South Carolina, is a private historically Black liberal arts institution affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Founded in 1897 by Elizabeth Evelyn Wright, a former student of Booker T. Washington, the college began as a primary school and evolved into a junior college before achieving four-year status in 1962. The campus encompasses 380 acres and features a blend of historic and modern academic buildings, with Massachusetts Hall serving as the institution's oldest structure. Voorhees offers bachelor's degree programs with particular emphasis in business administration, criminal justice, and education, while maintaining small class sizes typical of liberal arts colleges. The college provides on-campus housing in six residence halls and competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as the Voorhees Tigers.
