Spartanburg Methodist College, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is a private two-year residential institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Situated on a 110-acre suburban campus, the college was founded in 1911 as Textile Industrial Institute before adopting its current name in 1974. As one of the few remaining two-year residential colleges in the United States, SMC provides associate degree programs with a focus on transfer preparation to four-year institutions, with strong programs in business, criminal justice, and liberal arts. The campus features traditional residence halls housing approximately half of its student population, and the college competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 10, particularly known for its baseball program which has produced several professional players.
