Penn State Wilkes-Barre, established in 1916, is a commonwealth campus of the Pennsylvania State University system located in Lehman Township, approximately 15 minutes from downtown Wilkes-Barre in northeastern Pennsylvania. The 45-acre suburban campus sits atop the historic Huntsville Mountain, featuring modern academic buildings alongside preserved historic structures from the former Hayfield Farm estate. As a commonwealth campus, Penn State Wilkes-Barre primarily serves commuter students while offering limited on-campus housing options in the nearby Nittany Commons apartment complex. The campus specializes in engineering, business, and information sciences programs, with particular emphasis on surveying engineering, which is one of only two ABET-accredited programs of its kind in Pennsylvania. Students can complete select four-year degrees entirely at the Wilkes-Barre campus or transition to other Penn State locations through the university's 2+2 program.
