Penn State Mont Alto, located in rural south-central Pennsylvania approximately 15 miles from the Maryland border, operates as one of Penn State University's Commonwealth campuses. The 93-acre campus features historic buildings dating to its 1903 founding as the Pennsylvania State Forest Academy, set against a backdrop of forest land. The campus offers associate and baccalaureate degrees, with notable programs in forest technology, nursing, human development and family studies, and business. Students can begin most of Penn State's 275+ degree programs at Mont Alto before transitioning to other Penn State locations, following the university's 2+2 plan. The campus provides traditional dormitory housing for students and participates in NCAA Division III athletics as the Mont Alto Nittany Lions.
