Chatham University occupies a 39-acre campus in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, known for its historic Andrew Mellon estate grounds and arboretum setting. Originally established in 1869 as the Pennsylvania Female College, Chatham operated as a women's college until becoming fully coeducational in 2015. The institution maintains its main campus in Shadyside while also operating the 388-acre Eden Hall Campus north of Pittsburgh, which houses the Falk School of Sustainability & Environment. Chatham offers undergraduate and graduate programs with particular strengths in sustainability, health sciences, creative writing, and interior architecture, while maintaining small class sizes across its three colleges. Traditional undergraduate students are required to live on campus for their first two years, with housing available in both Victorian mansions converted to dormitories and modern residence halls.
