Founded in 1842, Willamette University is a private liberal arts college located in Salem, Oregon, adjacent to the state capitol and approximately an hour's drive from the major metropolitan area of Portland. Characterized by its historic campus featuring a blend of contemporary and Gothic Revival architecture, Willamette is recognized for fostering a close-knit academic community. The university offers a range of undergraduate programs with notable strength in law, business, and a liberal arts curriculum. In terms of selectivity, Willamette maintains a competitive admissions process. The majority of students live on campus in one of the residence halls, which contributes to the vibrant campus life. While Willamette competes in NCAA Division III athletics, it is not broadly distinguished for its sports programs.

In the most recent statistical year 3,994 prospective students applied, and 3,219 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 524 enrolled in the school.  1,850 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 59 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $45,000 plus fees of $260.
