Marylhurst University was a private liberal arts institution located 10 miles south of Portland, Oregon, along the Willamette River. The campus, which operated from 1893 to 2018, encompassed 50 acres of historic buildings and gardens, including the architecturally significant BP John Administration Building. Founded by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary as a women's college, Marylhurst became Oregon's first liberal arts college to educate women and later transitioned to a co-educational institution in 1974. Before its closure, the university was known for its art and music programs, as well as its offerings in business and interdisciplinary studies, with a particular focus on serving non-traditional and adult learners. The university ceased operations in 2018 due to declining enrollment and financial challenges, and the campus property was subsequently returned to the Sisters of the Holy Names.
