I am a current student at the College of Wooster, and I am "black". The College of Wooster is not an appropriate space for students of color. Just because wooster promotes an inclusive and diverse campus doesn't mean that racism and prejudice don't exist on campus.

I graduated in 2011 and had a generally pretty great experience. As more time has passed I?ve really come to appreciate the education, discussion and exposure to excellent educators I had at the college. I was encouraged to participate in a range of activities from Greek life, to sports to the newspaper, and I so appreciate the well rounded perspectives that afforded me. I think the large international population was also an amazing facet of the experience. I also worked at the public library through the work study program. Coming from a different state and region, I learned a lot from folks I otherwise wouldn?t have within the Wooster community. There is always work to be done and there was surely no shortage things we griped about as students, but overall, when I compare my experience to my peers, I?m really satisfied with the decision I made back in 2007 (v haphazardly I might add, this was not a top choice for me at the time, but the best financial decision).

If you are a straight white male, you will be spied on, ratted on, harassed, and should you slightly deviate from any of their rules, you will be sanctioned to the fullest extent permitted, even to the point of violating your civil rights. I am speaking from personal experience. Female students with the same violations as male students get to choose from a kumbaya circle or watching videos; male students relegated to remote learning (that is they cannot set foot on campus for any reason minimally for a semester). Male coaches are told, in no uncertain terms, that they cannot advocate for their players in disciplinary matters, yet female coaches have an open-door policy and freely negotiate disciplinary outcomes with the Dean of Students, more specifically the Director of Rights and Responsibilities. Administration has become a group of disgruntled feminists looking to exact revenge on the evil white male. The crimes were mask not covering nose and being in a dorm room with 7 people.
