Sitting Bull College, established in 1973 and situated in Fort Yates, North Dakota, is a public tribal land-grant institution rooted in the Lakota/Dakota culture. Sitting Bull College offers a distinctive educational experience emphasizing indigenous knowledge, with a campus reflecting the spiritual significance tied to the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The college provides associate degrees across a range of fields, baccalaureate degrees, and certificate programs with notable academic focuses in areas such as Native American Studies, Natural Resource Management, and Business Administration. It facilitates a modestly selective application process aimed at serving primarily local and tribal students. On-campus housing is available to students looking to immerse themselves in the college community. The campus is located in a rural setting approximately two hours south of Bismarck, the nearest major city. While athletics are not a defining feature of Sitting Bull College, it participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) offering various sports programs for student engagement.

Sitting Bull College has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  200 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 57 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $3,600 plus fees of $410.
