Shaw University, located in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, is a private historically Black university founded in 1865 as the first historically Black institution of higher learning established in the Southern United States. The urban campus spans several blocks in central Raleigh and features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including the landmark Leonard Hall.
