Mitchell Community College serves the greater Statesville area in North Carolina's Piedmont region, approximately 40 miles north of Charlotte. The institution's main campus occupies several historic buildings in downtown Statesville, including the neoclassical Main Building constructed in 1856, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally established as Concord Female Seminary in 1852, Mitchell transitioned to a junior college in 1924 and later became a comprehensive community college serving Iredell County.
