Overall this has been a great university in all aspects. Love it for the quality of education, especially the fact that they have smaller class sizes very engaging and very real world scenario projects, preparatory for their profession projects, and for the low student professors ratio and individual instruction, excellent instructors, value for education, great mountain location, and the fun community town of Boone and sense of community and fun athletics/ football games.

Excellent great university in all aspects. Much more value for your money than many other state schools and cheaper than most NC state schools. A really great transfer student process and system. They made the process seamless and so easy for my son and he was so happy there ever since. Also housing is excellent they were so helpful when he needed to move dorms. A great community with Boone/ Blowing rock. Natural beauty all around and tons to do outdoors hiking biking skiing fishing exploring camping. Great sports Dept. Football team tradition. and A lot less headaches with the bigger city traffic to deal with than Raleigh and that mess.

Cant say enough great things about App, from the wonderful education to the great campus life clubs and activities, to the nice dorms, to the town of Boone and tons to do in the mountain area, to the football games and tailgates, to the great sense of community here, to the easy drive to Charlotte back home to see family.

The student life experience is very good with sports teams playing in the SoCon and Sun Belt conferences along with a multitude of social events, clubs, intramural sports and greek life to participate in. The academics are very good, especially in the business school for accounting. The food is pretty good at App State however they should add more dining options or chain restaurants in the future on campus. Off campus there is much to do with the Tanger Outlet Mall, downtown Boone, sports, exploring the great outdoors, going to tourist attractions or the Blue Ridge Parkway, the movies, or even skiing or snowboarding. Theres the towns of Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, Beech Mountain, and Sugar Mountain nearby which all offer many other student life experiences and places to explore in your free time as well. App State University also recently built several new dorms which are very modern and exciting, but there is still a lack of parking and housing options that should be addressed.

I regret going to school here. I honestly believe Appalachian owes me money for all the time I wasted there. The campus is very nice, but the education I received there I do not value. I do not have any useable skills or knowledge to refer back to gained from college.

I loved my education at ASU. Years later I've finished a post-doc at Harvard and have been well-prepared for everything I've needed in my career and in my life. I'm still in contact with many of my professors and have lifelong friends that have been with me through the highs and lows of my adulthood. Boone is magical, and it's a place truly filled with people who love to be there. I've never regretted it for a second.

Both my son and daughter attend and it has been a great experience. The professors are challenging, yet fair and the campus is beautiful!

If your child has had a citation for underage drinking or marijuana possession do not disclose it to this university or any within the UNC system. They will have a target on their back. My sons room was searched because someone "thought" they smelled marijuana. When he demanded a search warrant they only got a warrant for his half of the room. There's something wrong if you smell something under the door and you don't search the entire room Granted many parents will find this comforting but in this day and age when marijuana is legal in so many states this smacks of targeting. After six weeks he is now on probation and is probably not going to finish out the school year Appalachian as 11th on the list of all colleges in the country for arrests for drug and alcohol use. This is the time when kids experiment and make it out alive for the most part. My son will be leaving the school for a better place in December This is a good kid who doesn't deserve this.
