Manhattanville College occupies a 100-acre suburban campus in Purchase, New York, located 30 miles north of New York City in Westchester County. The campus is centered around its historic Reid Castle, a nineteenth-century Gothic Revival structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which now houses administrative offices and serves as an architectural focal point. Originally established in 1841 as a Catholic women's college in Manhattan, Manhattanville relocated to Purchase in 1952 and became coeducational in 1969. The liberal arts institution maintains a moderately selective admissions process and offers undergraduate programs with particular strengths in business, education, and creative writing, along with several graduate degree programs. Traditional dormitories and apartment-style residences house students on campus, with first-year students required to live in campus housing.
