New Mexico Highlands University sits in Las Vegas, New Mexico, approximately 65 miles east of Santa Fe in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Established in 1893 as New Mexico Normal School, the institution evolved into a comprehensive public university serving a largely Hispanic student population.
