The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is a public research institution established in 1908 and located in Omaha, Nebraska, approximately 60 miles northeast of the state capital, Lincoln. The campus offers a mixture of traditional and modern architecture with a variety of facilities that support on-campus living, including multiple residence halls. UNO serves a diverse population of students and maintains a moderately selective admissions process. Academic offerings are robust, with notable programs in business, education, information technology, and military science. The university promotes a dynamic academic environment enhanced by technology and interactive learning opportunities. While the university does field a range of athletic teams, known as the Mavericks, athletic programming at UNO particularly emphasizes hockey, in which it has gained recognition.
