Located in the small town of Lexington, Missouri, approximately 45 miles east of Kansas City, Wentworth Military Academy and Junior College operated as one of the oldest military schools in the United States from 1880 until its closure in 2017. The historic campus encompassed 135 acres featuring red-brick buildings and parade grounds in a traditional military academy layout. As a military junior college, Wentworth offered both high school and two-year college programs, including an Early Commissioning Program that allowed cadets to become U.S. Army officers after completing their associate's degree. The institution maintained strict military discipline and structure, with all students required to participate in the Corps of Cadets, reside in campus barracks, and wear uniforms. During its operation, Wentworth was known for its infantry training programs and preparation of students for transfer to four-year military academies and civilian universities.
