The University of Missouri-Columbia, often referred to as Mizzou, is a public research university located in Columbia, Missouri. Established in 1839, it is the flagship campus of the University of Missouri System and holds the distinction of being the first public university west of the Mississippi River. Situated in a college town, Mizzou's campus spans over 1,262 acres and features a blend of neoclassical and modern architectural styles. It provides a dynamic campus atmosphere with a plethora of student housing options, including residence halls and Greek life accommodations. As a comprehensive institution, Mizzou offers more than 300 degree programs across 13 schools and colleges, with notable strength in journalism and health professions.
