Southwest Mississippi Community College

Southwest Mississippi Community College is located in Summit, Mississippi, approximately 70 miles south of Jackson. The two-year public institution serves students across Pike, Amite, and Walthall counties from its rural 156-acre main campus, which features traditional brick buildings arranged around a central quad area. Founded in 1918 as an agricultural high school before transitioning to a junior college in 1929, SMCC maintains an open admission policy and primarily offers associate degrees and career certificates. The college emphasizes programs in nursing, business administration, and industrial technologies, while also providing university transfer pathways. Campus housing is available through several residence halls, and the college participates in NJCAA Division I athletics, with its teams competing as the Bears.
