Hillsdale College, located in rural southern Michigan approximately 100 miles west of Detroit, is a private liberal arts institution founded in 1844. The 400-acre campus features traditional red-brick architecture and a mix of historic and modern academic buildings, centered around the iconic Central Hall. Known for its classical liberal arts curriculum and commitment to operating without federal or state funding, Hillsdale maintains a selective admissions process and requires all students to complete a core curriculum that includes Western heritage, American heritage, and constitutional government courses. The college houses most of its students in single-sex dormitories and campus residences, and offers notable programs in politics, economics, and classical education. Hillsdale competes in NCAA Division II athletics as the Chargers, primarily participating in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
