Ecumenical Theological Seminary

Ecumenical Theological Seminary (ETS) occupies the former First Presbyterian Church building, a Gothic Revival structure in Detroit's Midtown district near the Cultural Center Historic District. Established in 1980, ETS evolved from the Institute for Advanced Pastoral Studies and maintains its founding mission to provide theological education across denominational lines. The seminary offers graduate-level programs including Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry, and Doctor of Ministry degrees, with a curriculum emphasizing urban ministry and interfaith dialogue. ETS serves a diverse student body of working clergy and lay leaders, offering evening and weekend classes to accommodate working professionals, while maintaining partnerships with local religious organizations and community groups throughout metropolitan Detroit.
