Emmanuel College occupies a 17-acre campus in Boston's Fenway neighborhood, adjacent to the Longwood Medical Area and within walking distance of multiple cultural institutions. Founded in 1919 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Emmanuel was the first Catholic college for women in New England, later transitioning to coeducational status in 2001. The college features a mix of historic Gothic Revival architecture and modern facilities, centered around its main academic building, the Administration Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Emmanuel offers liberal arts and sciences programs with particular strengths in nursing, psychology, and business management, while maintaining its traditional focus on combining professional preparation with liberal arts education. Students are required to live on campus for their first three years, with housing provided in six residence halls, and the college competes in NCAA Division III athletics as part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
