Alice Lloyd College, a private, four-year liberal arts institution located in Pippa Passes, Kentucky, maintains a historically significant emphasis on leadership, self-reliance, and service within the Appalachian region. Founded in 1923 by Alice Spencer Geddes Lloyd and June Buchanan, the college sits on a rural campus in the heart of the Central Appalachians, approximately 150 miles southeast of Lexington. Academically, Alice Lloyd offers a range of majors, with business administration, education, and liberal arts and sciences being particularly notable. The school touts a highly selective admissions process, focusing on students from within the Appalachian region, and is recognized for offering a tuition guarantee to all full-time students from its 108-county service area, which covers parts of five states.
