Clarke University, located in Dubuque, Iowa, is a private institution founded in 1843 by Mary Frances Clarke, which retains deep ties to its BVM (Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary) heritage. This coeducational liberal arts university is nestled on a 55-acre campus, reflecting a Gothic architectural style and providing a scenic ambiance on its serene hilltop location overlooking the Mississippi River. Clarke's academic profile is characterized by a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate programs, with particularly noteworthy offerings in the health sciences field. The college maintains a moderately selective admissions process. The university facilitates a residential experience with on-campus housing opportunities for its approximately 1,200 students.
