Briar Cliff University is a private Catholic liberal arts institution situated on a 70-acre hilltop campus overlooking Sioux City, Iowa. Founded in 1930 by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Dubuque, the university features limestone buildings in a traditional collegiate style with views of the Missouri River valley and portions of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The institution offers undergraduate programs with particular emphasis in nursing, business, education, and social work, while maintaining its liberal arts foundation. Students are required to live on campus for their first two years, with housing provided in three residence halls. Briar Cliff competes in NAIA athletics as the Chargers, participating primarily in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
