South Georgia State College

South Georgia State College is a public institution located in Douglas, Georgia, approximately 125 miles southeast of Macon in the state's wiregrass region. Operating as a residential state college within the University System of Georgia, the institution maintains its main campus in Douglas with an additional instructional site in Waycross. Originally established in 1906 as the Eleventh District Agricultural and Mechanical School, SGSC has evolved into a two-year and limited four-year degree-granting institution that primarily serves the southeastern region of Georgia. The 190-acre main campus features traditional collegiate architecture with modern academic facilities, including residence halls that house approximately 350 students. The college offers associate degrees across multiple disciplines and select bachelor's degrees in areas such as management, nursing, and biological sciences, while maintaining an open-access admission policy consistent with its mission as a state college.
