Shorter University sits on a hilltop campus in Rome, Georgia, approximately 70 miles northwest of Atlanta. Founded in 1873 as a women's college by Baptist leaders, the institution became coeducational in 1950 and currently operates as a private Christian liberal arts university. The 155-acre campus features Georgian-style architecture and maintains its historic Baptist affiliation while offering undergraduate programs in business, education, nursing, and Christian studies. Shorter participates in NCAA Division II athletics as part of the Gulf South Conference, with its athletic teams competing as the Hawks, and requires residential students to live in one of six on-campus residence halls during their first two years.
