Fort Valley State University (FVSU), founded in 1895, is a historically black university located in Fort Valley, Georgia, within easy reach of Macon and approximately 100 miles south of Atlanta. Its semi-rural campus spans 1,365 acres and features a blend of modern and historic buildings that reflect a storied past and a commitment to technological advancement. FVSU is part of the University System of Georgia and offers a range of bachelor's and master's degrees, with a significant focus on agriculture, veterinary science, and teacher education, among other fields. The university has an open admissions policy, welcoming a diverse population of students. On-campus living is facilitated through several residence halls that cater to the student body's needs. Known for its Wildcats athletic teams, FVSU competes in the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, though it is not primarily renowned for an athletic program.
