Pretty good school. I'm both a student and an employee here so I get to witness both sides.

Don't get distracted by the party life due to the environment that is the Miami area. There is a time and place under the sun for all things including fun and having a social life, however, don't allow it to engross your time to the point where you lose focus on the work that you have come to put in.

I was a grad student in the 2012-2013 year. Grad students (at least in the College of Nursing) were being financially abused. The rate of grad in-state tuition (by Board of Governors - BOG - that oversees FL public universities) was $422.16 per credit. We were charged that, and an extra $230 per credit (=$690 more per course, $13,800 more for program). This fee not properly disclosed to students before enrolling, the dept. chair could not say fee was for, only that without it the program would be shut down. Inquiring to the admin., I eventually found out the fee was never properly or legally authorized. Never brought before FIU's Board of Trustees (BOT), or BOG (both required). It was "assessed" and "approved" by someone in 2005 using a continuing education rule; our program was never contin. ed, Grad programs differ from undergrad, where tuition is fixed. Grad programs can charge more if legally done. This was not. Grad students were targeted for overcharging. Very upsetting!
