Colorado College, founded in 1874, is a private liberal arts college located in Colorado Springs, roughly 70 miles south of Denver. The institution is distinctive for its "Block Plan," an intensive academic schedule where students take and focus on one course at a time for three and a half weeks. Colorado College's campus boasts a mix of contemporary and historical architecture, including several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, set against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Housing is provided for all four years, and the majority of students live on campus in a variety of residential options. Colorado College has a highly selective admissions process and is known for its environmental science programs, among other majors. While the college has a range of athletics, it is particularly recognized for its Division I men?s ice hockey team, known as the Tigers.
