Overview

University of the West, established in 1991 and accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission, is a private, not-for-profit institution located in Rosemead, California, just a short drive from downtown Los Angeles. This modest-sized university fosters a distinctive merging of Eastern and Western educational philosophies and offers a range of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs with a strong emphasis on Buddhism and its integration into modern American society. Known for its Master of Business Administration and its religious studies programs, the college seeks to provide a diverse academic environment. University of the West features a serene, suburban campus with a blend of contemporary and Asian-inspired architectural styles, reflecting its philosophical roots. The university facilitates on-campus housing options for its students, contributing to a focused learning atmosphere. Admissions are considered selective, and although University of the West is not primarily recognized for its athletic programs, it provides intramural sports opportunities for student participation and recreational purposes.

University of the West has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  149 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 15 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $12,912 plus fees of $1,106.
