The University of California-Davis (UC Davis) is a public institution established in 1905 as a farm school for the University of California, Berkeley. Located in the city of Davis, just 15 miles west of Sacramento and approximately 72 miles northeast of San Francisco, its campus spans over 5,300 acres, making it the largest campus in the UC system by land area. UC Davis prides itself on a distinguished academic profile with strengths in areas such as veterinary science, agriculture, environmental science and sustainability. Its comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs attracts a competitive applicant pool. The university offers a range of on-campus housing options for its diverse student body, which includes suites, apartments, and cooperative housing. Though UC Davis is not primarily known for athletics, its teams compete in the NCAA Division I as the Aggies, with a particularly strong cycling team that has achieved national recognition.
