Santa Monica College is a public community college located in Santa Monica, California, three miles from the Pacific Ocean and 16 miles west of downtown Los Angeles. The 38-acre main campus features modern classroom buildings and specialized facilities, including a performing arts complex and science complex, set in an urban environment. Established in 1929, SMC serves as the leading transfer institution to the University of California system and offers over 180 degree and certificate programs, with particular strength in entertainment technology, nursing, and business. The college maintains several satellite campuses throughout Santa Monica, including a performing arts campus and a Center for Media and Design, while operating an extensive bus network connecting its facilities.
