Loyola Marymount University occupies a 142-acre campus on a bluff overlooking west Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean in the residential Westchester neighborhood. The private Jesuit institution, formed through the 1973 merger of Loyola University and Marymount College, maintains its Catholic educational tradition while serving a diverse student population. LMU's Spanish Colonial architecture defines its campus layout, which includes required on-campus housing for first- and second-year students. The university's College of Liberal Arts, School of Film and Television, and College of Business Administration are among its most prominent academic divisions, with the film school particularly recognized within the Los Angeles entertainment industry. LMU competes in NCAA Division I athletics as the Lions, primarily in the West Coast Conference.
