Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is a private health sciences institution located in the Willowbrook neighborhood of South Los Angeles, California. Established in 1966 in response to the Watts Riots to address healthcare disparities in underserved communities, the university occupies an urban campus adjacent to the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital. The institution focuses exclusively on healthcare education, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in medicine, nursing, and allied health professions, with particular emphasis on training healthcare professionals to serve in under-resourced areas. The university operates as one of four historically Black medical schools in the United States and maintains strong partnerships with local healthcare facilities for clinical training.
