Founded in 1885 as the first university in the Arizona Territory, the University of Arizona (UA) in Tucson, Arizona, is a public research institution that combines a diverse and inclusive learning environment with rigorous academics and a rich history. The campus exhibits a distinctive Southwestern architecture amid the Sonoran Desert and a range of offerings in student housing, including residence halls and apartment-style living. Characterized by a selective admissions process, UA provides a comprehensive range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, notably in optics, astronomy, and environmental science, capitalizing on its geographic location for telescopic and environmental research.
