A 79 percent grade is a C+ letter grade. A letter grade C+ means satisfactory or average performance in a class or on a test. Any percentage score in the 77-79.9 range is a C+ on the grade scale table.
A 79 converts to a 2.3 GPA. All percent grades 77-79.9 are in the 2.3 range. GPA is determined from a percent grade by consulting the GPA conversion table.
A 79 is a C+ and is one percentage point below being a B-. The cutoff for a B- is a 80 minimum. However, teachers may sometimes give students the benefit of the doubt and round up to a B-. This is especially true if your percentage is a fraction above a 79, like a 79.5, 79.75 or 79.9. If the C+ is rounded up you would benefit from an additional 0.3 grade points in your GPA calculation.
