The University of Washington-Tacoma Campus (UW Tacoma) is an urban-serving university located in Tacoma, Washington, approximately 35 miles south of Seattle. Established in 1990, this campus extends the University of Washington's educational mission to the South Puget Sound region. Situated in the revitalized downtown area, UW Tacoma occupies a series of renovated historic buildings, providing a distinctive urban campus environment. The institution serves a diverse student body and offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs with an emphasis on small class sizes and a collaborative learning atmosphere. Known for its interdisciplinary approach, UW Tacoma has notable programs in business administration, computer science and systems, and social work, among others. The acceptance rate of the university is generally categorized as selective. While UW Tacoma does not emphasize residential life, limited on-campus housing options are available to support the academic experience. The campus does not have a significant emphasis on intercollegiate athletics.
