Hollins University is a private women's college located in Roanoke, Virginia, framed by the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. Founded in 1842 as Valley Union Seminary and transitioning to a four-year institution in 1911, Hollins holds the distinction of being one of the oldest women's colleges in the United States. The university's 475-acre campus exhibits a blend of classical red-brick buildings and contemporary structures, creating a historic yet modern environment. Hollins offers undergraduate and graduate programs with a liberal arts focus and is particularly known for its strong creative writing and dance programs. The campus fosters a close-knit academic community with a moderately selective application process. On-campus living is available with a variety of housing options for students, enhancing the collegiate experience amidst the institution's idyllic setting.
