If you are a student, former student, faculty member or parent, please help guide other prospective students by sharing your personal experiences at this college. What is it really like to go to Richland College?
The advising at the Dallas College Richland Campus is horrible. The music advisors place students that are not qualified in the program to fill chairs for $$$$. Students are put in 100 - 161 credit hours. The Associate's Degree is only 60 hours. 66 is the maximum number of credit hours that will transfer to a 4 year university. All attempted hours count. At 150 hours Texas Universities charge residents the much higher out of state tuition. At 180 hours financial aid ends. The problem has been swept under the rug for years. It is a bloodbath for the students, their paying parents and the taxpayers. The end result is few graduate or transfer from the Richland Campus Music Department. Of those few that transfer to a 4 year university only a tiny fraction graduate. Students' academic careers are ended and they do not get any skills in a music department that will lead to gainful employment.

The music and other advisors put students into excess credit hours in music and other nonsense that are not transferable, apply to nothing, use up all of students' financial aid and then lands them in out of state tuition at their own Texas Universities. Students end up with no job skills and no gainful employment. The music advisors are using students to fill chairs and get tax dollars into the department. Only sign up for credit classes if you have a degree plan from a real university and then follow it to the letter. Financial aid runs out at 180 credit hours. Many Richland Music students will end up with 100 - 161 hours when only 66 will transfer. Out of state tuition is not covered by financial aid and will really hurt when you run out of aid!
